Ohio Caverns
Logan County is not only home to the oldest attraction in Ohio, but this attraction is the largest cavern in Ohio as well.
If you haven’t figured it out yet we are referring to the beautiful Ohio Caverns. Ohio Caverns has over 2 miles of surveyed passageways ranging in depth from 30 feet to 103 feet. This attraction is open year-round as the cave protects from all the weather.
Visitors can take two different tours a historic one or a more scenic tour. The Historic Tour includes parts of the caverns viewed by visitors from 1897-1925. Guests descend 44 steps into the cavern at the site of discovery. Guides will provide information about the history and even point out historic graffiti left behind by early explorers.
For a more scenic tour you’ll want to go on the Natural Wonder Tour. You’ll be lead through a winding path overlooking the picturesque Mingo Valley and enter the cavern through a sinkhole entrance opened in 2012. This tour will feature areas discovered after the excavation in the 1920s.
Just don’t forget no matter what the weather is outside the temperature in the cave is always around 54 degrees.
