Budget Friendly Family Day Trips

We understand that family trips can be expensive and it’s hard to take the kids out every weekend without spending $$$. We came up with some budget friendly day trips that require minimal to no spending (unless you want ice cream).

History Exploration:

Logan County History Center:   The History Center is free to tour and with a combination of The Orr Mansion, the Transportation Museum and The History Museum the Logan County History Center has something for everyone. The kids will love the Transportation Museum with biplanes and other interesting items.

Once you finish at the History head down to the Historic Downtown Bellefontaine for some ice cream from Whit’s Frozen Custard. Enjoy your ice cream in front of the beautiful courthouse right by the famous pineapple fountain! You could even walk down to the corner of S Main & Chillicothe for a fun photoshoot! Be sure to use our hashtag #locofun on social media!

(BONUS: Check out our Highway to History for a county wide day trip!)

Sunshine & Swimming

With two options you can go to Old Field Beach or Fox Island Beach, pack a picnic and enjoy the day!

At Old Field Beach The kids can enjoy swimming in Indian Lake at Old Field Beach. There is also a playground, dog park, disc golf course, and various hiking trails at Old Field Beach!

At Fox Island Enjoy swimming along the beach at Fox Island. Picnic tables, restrooms and a beach volleyball court also accompany the beach. There is also a park being built!  This beach is less frequented by tourists compared to Old Field Beach and is considered to be a hidden gem of Logan County!

End your day with a trip to the Donut Shop and enjoy some premium homemade ice cream! Grab your ice cream and then walk over to Sandy Beach Bridge for an amazing view of Indian Lake and a fun location for some pictures!

Nature Adventure:

Visit the beautiful Myeerah Nature Preserve for a fun filled day of hiking! With an endless number of trails and lakes this will be a place you and the kids can explore for days! If your lucky you might even run into some wildlife! You can even pack a picnic lunch to eat in the many shelter houses.

If the kiddos aren’t completely exhausted after a big day of exploring stop in at City Sweets & Creamery for a sweet treat!

(PRO TIP: I’ve heard from ice cream pros (kids) that the blue moo cookie dough is the best flavor and good for making tongues turn blue)

Farm Adventure:

While Marmon Valley Farm offers many fun activities, you can actually just visit the Farm and pet the animals for FREE! The farm has a lot to explore including the animal bars, the rabbit house and the horse barn. You can feed the animals for a quarter and pet them.  If you feel up to it, you could play putt putt!

(PRO TIP: There is a hidden hay maze in the top of the barn that the kids will love)

If you and the kids are hungry after your visit to the Farm head over to Firehouse Pizza for delicious food and ICE CREAM! This local eatery even has a patio and firetruck for the kids to play on!

Splash Pad Fun:

Grab beach towels, sunscreen and your swimsuits then head out to the West Liberty Splash Pad! Located in Lions Park this location has the Splash Pad, playgrounds, bike paths, basketball and so much more to do! Enjoy a picnic lunch at one of the shelter house or picnic tables around the park.

After enjoying a day at the park head into Downtown West Liberty for a delicious treat from The Ice Cream Parlor. This hidden gem of Logan County always has delicious options to chose from.
